Ive climbed Echo Canyon trail and Cholla trail over 100 times and they never disappoint. This mountain has something for everyone; 1) convenient location, 2) good looking crowd to help motivate your climbing, 3) best views in the valley of the sun, 4) you can make the hike as challenging as you want by running to the top and/or going up/down multiple times. Ive seen the elderly, obese people, and kids as young as 6 or 7 make it to the top (although if you are in this demo i would highly recommend to take your time and rest often). Echo Canyon is currently closed for maintenance so I did Cholla yesterday at 12 noon, 103F, up and down in 1:15, 950 calories. Be sure to bring plenty of water and be sure to look for the blue dots to help stay on the trail...it's easy to go off the trail by accident FYI.
