  • All I wanted were some doughnuts and the moron owner messed it up. So I pass by this place every day on my way to work. I've stopped in once or twice before. Their doughnuts aren't great, but good. I have $5 cash and decide I wanted a morning snack. I stop in and ask for a cream filled, maple bar, and an apple fritter (I know I'm overindulging). While grabbing my doughnuts the owner asked if I wanted 5 doughnuts. Puzzled, I said no only 3. He rings up the doughnuts and it comes to $5.89. I said, "oops one moment." I had to go to my car because I only had $5. While getting additional change I second guess the total. How does 3 doughnuts add up to over $5 when an apple fritter is $1.45. I go back in. Now I am all for small businesses. Immigrant owners are usually cool too. Let me support your dream (or at least what you chose to do). The owner is an old Japanese man (and doesn't speak much English). I asked him how my 3 doughnuts added up to the total. He said I asked for 5 doughnuts. I was a little puzzled because he just asked if I wanted 5 and I said no. He pointed to the case and said I asked for 3 cream filled. I said no thank you and I repeated my order. He took 2 cream filled out of the bag for me. The whole time trying to argue the fact that I ordered 5 doughnuts. So I asked him to please not argue with me. I know what I ordered and clarified twice. The next thing that happened changed the whole transaction. Get my order wrong? No big deal. The owner got to the register (after trying to argue with me) then while looking down and punching into the register said something out loud in Japanese. I don't speak Japanese nor look like I do. This is highly highly offensive. You don't mutter something to yourself in another language in front of me. At least wait until I leave to talk about me. I don't care what language it is or what culture you're from. It's rude. I got quite heated about this. Probably more so than I should have. I told him I was trying to support his small business that probably doesn't get many customers and told him I would never return.
