| - I have been really wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but every time I would try and go they would be closed. When I thought about them this time they were just getting ready to close. So we ordered and took the food home. It was just ok, there was nothing exciting about the food. Everything could have used more flavor. I don't think it made that much difference that we took the food home.
We ordered the Catfish, Snapper and Meatloaf dinners(which came with three sides each.) All of them were dry and needed more flavor. The meatloaf, 1/2 inch thick with gravy, almost seemed like it was processed and had no juice, flavor, texture or color (like bell peppers, onions, tomato anything. The Snapper and Catfish were both fried and were very thinly cut.
They give you a nice amount of food for the cost. We had Mac & Cheese, Black Eye Peas, Fried Cabbage, Greens, and Yams. I loved the fried cabbage. The Yams were good, but could have used a tad more nutmeg. The meal came with cornbread muffins that were dry and boring.
The Black Eye Peas just tasted like Peas, and my 10 year old makes better Mac and Cheese. Not only could I not find the cheese but I could find any flavor. It was not the traditional Black Mac and Cheese that is baked with cheese. Greens were ok, nothing to discuss.
The worst part was the Peach Cobbler. I was excited when I saw the Peach Cobbler picture on the website, it looked delicious and flavorful. Instead of Peach Cobbler, I received two bowls of dough with maybe two peaches. I warmed it up for 45 secs like they suggested but that did not make any difference. It tasted like peach flavored bread, not like a cobbler at all.
The only thing that was good, was the service. They were friendly when I placed the order over the phone and when I picked it up.
