| - Being that my boyfriend is Ukrainian, we had to make a mandatory visit to Dnister. Tucked away on the lower level of the St. Lawrence market, it looks like a small deli selling a variety of sausages, baked goods, and pickles. What we had really come for was the pierogies. It was an interesting experience..
Pros:
- Good value, pierogies are a dozen for $4, which was the main draw for my bf. Bought a dozen of the mashed potato filled variety, and a dozen with mushroom.
- Pierogies taste is fairly good, the mushroom one being seasoned surprisingly well.
Ultimately it makes for a very inexpensive lunch.
Cons:
- Heating up the pierogies in plastic containers in the microwave was somewhat of a turn-off for me. They throw a blob of sour cream on top afterward..
- Kolbassa just tasted very salty, and the fact that I was eating it out of a plastic bag seemed unappetizing. Perhaps this is because this food is meant to be brought home for later?
- Location and atmosphere are not good, mostly because I find St. Lawrence market in general to be a bit grungy, particularly the basement level.
I will come back to Dnister if in the area, but the pierogies are not something I would travel out of the way for. Might have to try some of their other baked goods to make a more fair assessment.
