  • I had a great time on the trail ride. It is a slow pace and takes about an hour for $69. I have ridden horses for years, and based on that I would say that the horses are fairly well trained, but some (mules etc) can be a little stubborn by nature. My boyfriend was on one such horse. He has never ridden a horse before in his life, which led to a hilarious show for myself and the rest of the riders. He did less commanding the horse with the reins and more cussing at the horse when he stopped for a snack, which lead his little chubby halflinger to assume that he was the boss. After trying multiple times to take back the reins, so to speak, the trail guide went back to get them in line... Realizing he was in trouble, little Apollo took off running to get away from the trail guide ("running" in my boyfriends mind, 5-6 fast strides in real life). The look on my boyfriends face was worth the $70. Super funny, and overall not really dangerous (he thought he was going to die, but really not). I appreciate that these horses were not so overly worked or trained that they monotonously follow each other end to end. It also makes me think that they are treated fairly well (read "are spoiled little brats"), which is fine with me, because all animals need a little spoiling. The trail guides were great, one even offered me his coat for the ride, because it was cold out. The view was obviously amazing, and we got to see a roadrunner and a jack rabbit.
