| - I have ready many negative reviews about the Flamingo and since we sort of had to stay there, we were nervous. Because of the poor expectations, I really feel compelled to share my experience at the Flamingo the last few days and address the "issues" that were brought to our attention while reading reviews on this and other forums.
We booked this trip to join some friends of ours that had gotten an excellent deal on flights/rooms and they asked us and another couple to join them about a month after they had booked themselves. I had never stayed at the Flamingo but we booked the cheap Fab King rooms because we hadn't really budgeted for this trip. Our reservation didn't allow for cancellations because of the low rate and our upgrade offer (about a week from the trip) was just too much to justify in our eyes.
My wife was very apprehensive because she read many reviews was really buying into the horror stories of the condition of the rooms, rude staff, pushy timeshare salespeople, etc... When we arrived, we inquired about an upgrade but they didn't have any available unless we wanted to change rooms during the stay which we declined. We were placed on the 16th floor with a partial strip view. When we got to our room and it was the closest room to the elevators and there was a sign stating it was a dog accessible room so my wife was really irritated before we entered the room thinking of the noise at the elevator and dog hair/mess potential (and we are dog lovers). To our surprise, the room was clean and nice and we barely ever heard a noise from the elevator area. We examined for bed bugs, pet stains, pet hair, etc... and found NOTHING wrong with our room. This room was basically like staying in a newer LaQuinta IMO. The mattress was firm, but comfortable. The pillows were a little firmer than we prefer, but they were completely fine. The bathroom was a little dinged up but again, completely fine. Our water pressure in the shower was excellent and not shortage of hot water. We were greeted by timeshare people about once a day as we walked through the lobby but they were not pushy and all we did was smile and say "no thank you" and they left us alone.
The pool was fun. Drink prices were a little higher than other places but it is what it is. They searched my wife's bag and asked me to empty my swim trunk pockets (had my phone and wallet in them) and they checked our ID. 1 morning they allowed coffee into the pool area and another morning they didn't so it depends on the person at the gate. I found the security people to be pretty friendly but we are polite people so that probably helps. The line did start forming at 8:15, but I am talking 2-4 people. By about 8:30 there were 15-20 people and if you were in line by about 8:45 you were able to get multiple chairs together still and I would say there were about 30-45 people in line at that time. We were able to get 6 chairs together in several locations and we were in line at 8:30AM. If you are a diamond or above player, you have a separate line so you can get there at 9AM and have your pick of chairs. It was the same each day (Monday-Thurs mornings) so I bet the weekends are a little tougher.
We were greeted by timeshare people about once a day as we walked through the lobby but they were not pushy and all we did was smile and say "no thank you" and they left us alone. This wasn't even an inconvenience to us. It was WAY less intrusive than the guys on the strip pushing their bars/clubs/events.
Honestly, we enjoyed our stay so much that we will be looking to stay there again in the future if the price is right. I preferred my room at MGM and love their pool options, but the location of the Flamingo and price is really hard to beat. We may have just gotten lucky by having one of the better Fab Rooms or it is just that we don't expect to receive a suite on a super 8 budget....
My main complaint was that the WiFi kept kicking you off and you had to login multiple times each day and that is so minor I feel bad writing it.....
