My trainer and I (we are copororate trainers) were traveling to Pheonix to do some training for our store employees. I had reserved my flight and a car through Travelocity. We landed ok and when we got to the Thrifty car rental counter to get the car there was a long line. No big deal.
My trainer took a seat in the small waiting area and I stood in line. When I finally got to the service desk 15 minutes later, the guy couldn't find my reservation. I went to my friend and got out a copy of the reservations from Travelocity. The guy said well, since it wasn't in his system he couldn't do anything. I asked him if I could just rent a car for the same rate since I had a copy of the confirmation.
He proceeded to tell me that I had to go online myself and make another reservation. I said, "so you can't just check to see availability and rent me a car? The sign says you have cars available." He said, "that's what I'd have to do."
I really couldn't believe it. What kind of service is this? Plus why have a sign saying cars are available if you aren't going to rent to folks who walk up?
Are you kidding me? So my trainer and I called the hotel (our hotel was only 5 miles away) and they sent their shuttle to get us.
Needless to say, they not only lost the rental, they lost a possible future customer.
Stay away from this rental car rental company!
