  • Initially Condescending Sales Person, Did not Disclose Internet Sale I went to the Macy's Home Store with my wife looking for a couch. We had looked at a custom furniture store and made our way to Macy's after checking out the selection at RC Willey. The sales person at RC Willey was honest and told us that RC would not carry the color, leather we wanted, and gave us specific recommendations for alternative stores. However, we wanted to see what Macy's had. There, we were initially greeted by Bernie. At first, Bernie was only speaking to my wife about the couches. I asked him about the fill inside the couch, and he responded by refusing to look at me and only looked at my wife saying, "I don't carry cheap coils or stuff like that and you should go look at RC Willey for that" despite me never asking for coils. At that point, we told him that we were good and would let him know if we needed assistance. To Bernie's credit, he was much better the second time when he circled back and asked us if we needed help. Rather than his original condescending attitude, he was much more receptive and actually answered my questions by responding to me instead of just talking to my wife. We found a couch that we liked and Bernie pulled it up on the internet to show us a model of what it looked like. He said that the "promotional price" of $3,250 offered in the store would be good until February 12. However, when we went home to look at the specs on the couch and measure the space again, we saw that there was an internet offering by Macy's for the same couch for $2,800. My wife called Macy's online and was told that the sale should have been offered in the store that we were at and we should have been told about it. The $3,250 price was a separate sale, but Bernie should have offered it to us in the store especially since he was pulling an example to show us what it would look like with the specs we had talked about. Just a warning to look at Macy's website for items since this store did not have correct pricing shown on the floor (as Macy's online informed us it should have). The overall quality of the couch was exceptional and also had great reviews online, so we ended up purchasing it online and saved approximately $500 than if he had simply just trusted Bernie and the pricing of the store.
