  • This is one of the busiest locations in the GTA. The product availability can range, overall I like this location because of the high turnover. But.... It can be very challenging when you need assistance because most of them speak mandarin (tricky since I don't). My only phrase that I know in mandarin "I don't speak mandarin do you speak cantonese" usually leads to the "no I don't". They often don't speak fluent english and I end up waiting a long time for someone to translate or otherwise I have to give up. Another thing, the customer service from quite a number of staff can also be lacking. There is a lady there who is usually rude but on the odd time she can be alright. I asked if their T&T brand mooncakes were baked on site, she kept replying "They are made by T&T" but that doesn't say anything since they could always have an offsite bakery. Their breads are frozen and they just bake them onsite (so technically they are baked on site but not made from scratch). Again, I asked a bakery dept mgr if the mooncakes were made fresh and she just said yes but I highly doubt it. Oh boy, they have some really nice cute steamed buns that resemble pigs (custard filled) and pumpkins (pumpkin filled). But the woman there didn't speak english or cantonese (only mandarin), had to ask a store customer if she could find out what some of the other buns were. Now these specialty buns (pigs, pumpkins) are a limited time thing. I bought them last time but when I got home cause they were so fresh when they put them in the bag they all got stuck to each other. One lady was serving a customer and I asked the woman who was unloading fresh buns if she could help me but she just kept redirecting me to the other woman. Asked if they could separate the buns (3 in each bag so they don't get squashed) and no go either. They say, if you want them separated you do it yourself. Here's another thing, if you go to any chinese bakery and buy six steamed buns they don't charge you tax. However, at T&T they claim that since the steamed buns are technically heated in the hot foods area, it is considered a restaurant item and not eligable to be tax exempt as it's not 'baked'.? This is what a mgr told me and went on to note 'if you don't want to buy them you don't have to'. Well that closed the deal, I only asked for clarification but if that's how he wanted to deal with the situation so be it. I had to make a tough decision and decided it wasn't worth it. When I have emailed customer service with a complaint they don't even bother replying. Get back to me when your staff improve their customer service!
