| - Strange, but in the wonderful way. Sort of a relic of a bygone era, only I'm not sure what era that is. From the outside, it seems innocent enough, but when you go inside you realize how strange it really is.
Let's cut right to the chase: there's a big ol' indoor pool and hot tub in the center of the thing. And it's open for all to see. Most of the rooms in the place--those around the perimeter--have an open view of the pool. So you go to the pool and there are potentially hundreds of eyeballs on you from the balconies and windows of all the rooms, four floors up, looking out on you.
We stayed here because of the pool. Our hiking muscles needed the rest and the hot tub promised to melt the knots. Neither the pool or hot tub were terrible, but the murky water felt thick and the hot tub jets struggled to churn. A positive experience, but we didn't leave with the relaxation we sought.
The biggest bummer was the air conditioner which had a prank controller on the wall. It clearly wasn't really effecting the actual air unit, no matter which combination of buttons we pressed. But the beds were comfortable after a week on the ground of camping, and the local pizza guy will deliver right to your room.
Bonus points for being there during a leather fetish conference. The Flogger Lady, the guy in leather chaps rocking naked man-butt, the candles-and-pillow room by the pool, whatever goes on up in the lounge on Four, and for teaching me about bootblacking. We didn't stick around long enough to enter the master-slave competition, but the folks at the conference were genuinely kind and I really truly am glad I got to learn more about it. Maybe I'll be back next year?
