| - I had a meeting this morning at Nova's Bakery on South Boulevard (lovely place), next door to Einstein Bros. Bagels. I pulled into Nova's parking lot, saw the spaces out front were full, and drove around back. Those were full too.
As neighboring businesses, Einstein Bros Bagels - South Blvd and Nova's Bakery's parking lots are connected. I looked for signage - ANYTHING TO INDICATE I SHOULDN'T PARK IN THE ADJOINING LOT - but there was nothing. No sign on either building, nothing going from one parking lot to the other, no barrier between the lots, nothing marking the individual spaces, etc., so I parked and went inside.
A while later, an Einstein employee walked into the Bakery with a short list of cars, including mine, and asked if any of them were ours. She said, "You need to move your car so they don't boot it!" I thanked her for the warning, grabbed my keys, and started to head outside. Before I got to the door she said, "Oh wait, never mind! You're fine! You can leave it where it is!" (She was on her cellphone, seemingly talking to a manager/owner.)
The woman working the counter at Nova's encouraged me to move it anyway so, I headed outside, where I was greeted by a less-than-friendly man from "Wheel Blockers." He was parked behind my car, blocking me in, and had locked a boot on my wheel. When I explained he said, "They don't know what they're talking about. The boot fee is $125 if you're paying with a credit card and $100 if you're paying with cash. By law, we only have to have one sign."
Although I felt TOTALLY bullied into it, I paid him the $125, moved my car, and went back inside. After the meeting, I walked over to Einstein's hoping to speak with someone who could give me more info or AT LEAST make sense of it. The manager basically brushed me off and said, "If you're not in our building when the boot-guy comes through, you're not technically a customer, and you shouldn't be in our parking lot."
I said, "If you consider it a separate lot, don't allow parking from the neighboring business, and have signs at 'the other entrances,' why would you NOT put a sign at THAT entrance too?" It wasn't until she told me the owner "knows about the problem and is planning to put a sign there," that I got seriously, deeply, frustrated.
I feel like I was completely, unabashedly taken advantage of.
If the owner is "planning to put a sign there," CLEARLY he knows it's misleading?! To allow "Wheel Blockers" to boot cars in his lot, *especially when his employees are taking the time to walk over, give verbal warning AND THEN SAY 'NEVER MIND, IT'S OKAY,'* is flat-out WRONG.
I hope the owner sees this and does something to fix the problem now, instead of just planning on it. From what I understand, he owns several locations, so I'm sure he realizes how damaging experiences like this can be to his patronage.
