| - Several days ago (Thursday) I visited petland to check out the dogs with my wife and daughter. While browsing I came across a keel billed toucan, which happens to be a bird I've been interested in for decades. While checking out the bird, the staff informed me she was on sale since she was there too long. I immediately acted on the offer. I was willing to put the bird on my cc that night, but also offered to heavily overcompensate them with quality designer snakes, since I'm a breeder. They set up a meet with the owner/manager (Adam) the following afternoon. I offer to leave a deposit that first night, but they insure me she will not sell. At this point, I'm willing to buy the bird or leave a deposit, but they seem to be interested in the snake trade. I go home and spend hours researching this species. Then, I contact acquaintances who currently own these birds, to pick their brains. I proceeded to order 30lbs ($100) in specialized pellets, so I'd be prepared. The following day (Friday)I head to the shop with a plethora of Snakes, and a no pressure attitude, since I'd be willing to buy if they didn't want the Snake trade. They photograph my animals to research genetics, etc, and told me they'd have an answer by Monday. As much as I wanted to leave with the toucan Friday, I understood they needed to research my animals... Not my first rodeo. After leaving the shop on Friday, I proceeded to buy a $700 cage off a Craigslist add. I only did this since my daughter was so upset we didn't leave with the bird after all the hype... not to mention the ropes, toys, branches, misters, etc. A Petland employee calls me today (Saturday), to inform me the bird is currently being sold. How immensely disrespectful and unprofessional is this phone call? What happened to Monday? Why wasn't I offered the animal first, considering my efforts previously explained. I offered to buy this bird on a cc. I offered to put a deposit to hold her. I compromised my animals health to bring them down on good faith. Now I have a crying kid, a vast knowledge on keel billed toucans and $1000+\- in bird supplies. I made it very clear to Adam that I was already invested in acquiring this bird, however we decided to finalize the deal (trade or buy). This whole scenario is unfortunate. Very hard to explain to a three year old also! Hopefully you guys conduct better business with customers in the future. Shame on you!
