| - Sad to write this-- three years ago I would've given My Nails five stars. The manager/owner was very welcoming, and despite the crowds, I never had to wait more than 15 min. for a walk-in appointment. The owner/manager would even step in on occasion and start my manis until someone was free. The techs were all friendly, and paid close attention to my requests-- I never experienced the dreaded "crooked nail" syndrome I'd suffered at other places. The gel manis were carefully applied and always lasted more than a month. I became a regular as a result, never feeling the need to request someone specific as the work was uniformly very good.
Last year I noticed business had dropped off sharply. I didn't understand why, as I was still getting good to great service. Then last year one of my manis started peeling after 10 days or so. The manager offered a free redo, which turned out better, but the friendliness I'd always experienced had cooled off somewhat. I still remained loyal, though my subsequent manicures were not holding up as they had in the past.
My last visit two weeks ago was the breaking point. I was given a new guy, Henry, who was hard to understand. Still, he was upbeat and promised a long-lasting mani. He worked very fast, and told me to put both hands in the dryer, which I'd never been told to do before. I burned my hands twice and indicated this, but he seemed to not understand me and kept insisting I follow his orders. He put on multiple coats, so at least I expected to get my money's worth. Then came the bill. The price had suddenly gone up $20.00, to $55.00. There was no notice of the price increase anywhere. I tried to complain, but Henry attempted to tell me it was because of a new gel they were using. I tried to speak with the manager/owner, but he suddenly had to make a phone call and didn't even look my way when I tried to get his attention. To add insult to injury, when I asked Henry to break a $10, he took it, all smiles, thinking it was his tip. His comprehension suddenly went from 50% to zilch. Oh, and the long-lasting mani he promised me started to peel away from the nail bed after only 3 days. I was forced to remove it after just one week.
I am normally loyal to a fault and can forgive most mishaps, but after this experience, nothing short of new ownership/management will get me to step foot in this place again.
