I'm a fan of Texas bbq, but when you're in North Carolina, you have to try a local favorite, especially when a local friend insists on you going there.
Midwood is different from a lot of the local Texas options. For one thing, Midwood offers table service and serves their meat on a plate instead of butcher paper.
But the important thing is the food. The brisket is excellent and would compete well in Texas. The sauce is tasty and they offer a variety of sauces. I also liked my fries and hush puppies. If I had one gripe at all, it would be that the St. Louis style ribs would've benefited from a bit more time in the smoker.
On a final note, our service was excellent and truly embodied southern hospitality.
If you're going to eat bbq outside of Texas, Midwood is the place to eat it. And I am now a convert to the cause of serving hush puppies with bbq.
