| - HATE IT WHEN 18% GRATUITY IS INCLUDED FOR A PARTY OF 2!!! Minus at least 1 star. And we'll not be coming back. Despite the excellent food and the nice spot overlooking the grand canal in the Venetian. Although I'm a tourist I'm familiar with the American customs and know how to tip. I even dare to say we tip generously. But not when it's already included in the check. Second time in two years. Other place was in Jackson Hole. Also party of two. We have no friends ;).
And if this wasn't bad enough they also charge your creditcard with a reservation of an extra 15% that's returned after a few days. Blaming the creditcard company. We'll I'm surprised. My creditcard company gives an realtime overview of all transactions, including reservations. Travelling throughout Europe, Canada and The United States this is the first time in ver 10 years that this happens.
We'll let's talk about food, service and atmosphere. Because they have a strict policy of no photography without management approval I can not show you the pictures. Minus an other star. Oke, half a star. You'll have to believe me when I say that food was good. European sizes, so not to huge portions. We've split the salami platter. Even for European standards not a big portion considering the price and the presented meats and cheeses. Also a bit dissappointing were the toastend pepers. I'm a huge fan of them, know the're cheap when you buy them in bulk and easy to prepare. But.........these were canned :(. I know because the canned ones are a little bit more firm and have the little sour taste of the fluid the're kept in. Minus an other half star.
My hubby had an excellent linguine with shrimps and scallops. I had the wildmushroom risotto. The risotto was well prepared. Best I had in a while, but could have done with a little bit more flavor. Don't know if this is a correct English way of describing, but it tasted a little watery.
With the food came bread. Not very intersting. Little old as if it was out since lunch. Not what we've expected. Olive oil and salt only offered after request. Strange for an Italian restaurant.
For dessert they have several Italian pastries they show you on a plate. Nice way of presentation. We shared the macarons. Considering the're not French and not from La Durée (yes, I'm very picky about my macarons) the were oke. But like everywhere, served way too cold to really taste the flavours. And waiting for them to warm up would have meaned that the (excellent) espresso turned cold. Dutchies always eat their coffee with some kind of a biscuit ;). Not afterwards.
Together with half a bottle of wine we've paid $172,... INCLUDING GRATUITY.
NOTE: I'm no native speaker so excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes. And please also excuse Apple for making devices with thoughts of their one. My Ipad keeps changing English words into 'proper Dutch' words. Sorry :(.
