| - This is not a donut place with fancy "filled with this, and crusted with that, with this kind of topping, blah blah blah". They have classic donuts that are done well.
Manning the FOH are 2 older Korean ladies who are very good at pushing donuts on you, especially when I only intend to grab 3 but leave with a dozen. We've pretty much tried everything they have, my favorites are the buttermilk bar and French cruller. Buttermilk bar has a nice tang to it, with just the right consistency and right amount of glaze. The French cruller is light as can be, also with the perfect amount of glaze.
One thing I've noticed over the countless treks here is their consistency may be off from time to time. The buttermilk bar will vary in size. If lucky, it will be the "normal" size, if unlucky, it's like a "baby buttermilk". Same with the glazes, sometimes there's more, other times less, sometimes sweeter, sometimes not, etc etc. I hear rave reviews about the cronuts but I'm personally not a fan. I think they're too dense/not flaky enough. Also too bad about their apple fritter - not enough apple taste/bits, but quite an impressive crust. I go down the street to Donut Mania for my fritters.
Talking to the ladies one day, come to find out they have a baker who comes in during the wee hours of the morning to make the donuts for them. They then come in around 5 to open up shop. Whoever this mysterious donut baker is... can you please stop by my house and make me donuts too?
The ladies, now recognizing me and noting that I always get there later in the day, also made known that if I just call ahead and put in my order, they will put aside whatever I want for me so I can pick it up later.
Oh, the ladies don't like it when you try to pay for a couple donuts with a card. They will still take it, but will be stinky about it. So make sure you can take the stink, or have cash, or just get a dozen.
