| - Extremely authentic Sichuan/Szechwan restaurant that I did not expect to find in Phoenix! I was in Phoenix for a residency interview and the program put us up in a hotel nearby. Due to flight delays, I ended up missing my pre-interview dinner social, so I walked over to Szechwan Palace from my hotel for dinner.
I'm glad I did! There were a few other Chinese restaurants in this plaza as well. Szechwan Palace had an extensive menu (as expected), and I found it amusing that they even had a section in the back explicitly labeled "Americanized Chinese Food." xD Definitely order the authentic stuff though!
Unfortunately, my phone was not working so I don't have any photos of my food, but I had an amazing meal of sliced beef tendon appetizer and a fried intestines clay pot dish with bean sprouts. I went through several bowls of rice (also because I was starving), and still had leftovers.
Service was okay, but I also spoke Mandarin. Prices are reasonable, and portions are good. The interior of the restaurant is very nicely decorated, better than I expect for an authentic Chinese place, and there are plenty of seats.
I also had fun exploring the Asian grocery in the same plaza after my meal.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, just make sure you can handle that Szechwan spice! ;)
