| - Ace place to stop off when we were passing through Charlotte en route to the NC coast. We had decided to get going early and time our arrival in Charlotte for around 11:30/noon time, and of the two or three breweries we had decided to allow for, Legion was a must.
My only minor gripe was parking. But it was a hopping street with cool stuff. We got lucky and I was able to squeeze the truck into a spot nearby. But I wouldn't have been sad to have parked further and enjoyed a stroll down the sidewalk.
I loved the look of the bar/sitting area. And the bar staff we spoke with were both really great to talk to and great about talking us through questions we had. That was really a highlight of the visit. I love it when a brewery is a laid back, easy to navigate place with good folks working the bar!
For beers, we had a handful of pints. We both tend to go all in rather than hit up a sampler or flight. My favorite was their flagship, the Juicy Jay. It was a really solid brew and I'm glad I brought a Crowler with me to the beach!
One other brew of note was their Dutch Kuit beer. It's a style that is brewed without hops and, if I have my history right, is a really really old style. While it was strange and I could absolutely detect the absence of hops, I found that I liked it in some strange way. I wouldn't order a pitcher, but if you're like me and succumb to curiosity easily then it won't waste your time.
The last thing I'd mention is the food. We decided to forgo a third brewery stop (Legion was 2nd on our planned route) and hang a while. We got some food and watched some World Cup for a while. The big pretzel was really satisfying. The wings are a dry rub, but they add a cup of honey. Personally I preferred just a dab of the honey on a wing since it was super sweet.
We also had the bahn mi. I must say, if you're looking for an actual Vietnamese bahn mi then this isn't it. It was a great pork sandwich with a Vietnamese twist! But not quite a bahn mi as I think of them. It was still a solid sandwich and I'd gladly order it again.
So, that's about the size of it there. We loved this stop off and when in Charlotte I think Legion will be a must-stop, even if all we are doing is passing through and grabbing some crowlers. Loved the place, loved the beers, and enjoyed spending a couple of hours. I hope to be back soon!
