| - We got home after a long vacation to find our dog vomiting. We took him into Vetmed Phoenix. There was no wait, and the staff was super. We received a call from Dr. Grant after they did the ultraSound and was told he needed immediate surgery due to an obstruction in his intestines and stomach. Dr. Grant was not an alarmist, however, she very delicately told me that time was important, as our dog could become septic quickly. I am very cautious of any type of doctor/veterinarian, so I contacted my personal veterinarian, who said that she fully trusts Vetmed, and based on what I was told from the ultrasound, the surgery had to be done immediately. She also stated that the veterinarians on staff at Vetmed were excellent. I gave my approval, and was contacted by Dr. Grant every few hours on the status. After the surgery, we went to visit him, and found the back area to be very clean. I was impressed at the amount of room he had in the kennel (he is an Irish Wolfhound). Each time we called (which was quite often) we were treated very well by the associates. Each time we went to visit, we had a minimal wait time before we were taken back to see him (the maximum time we waited was about 20 minutes). Even the cost was reasonable for an emergency animal hospital. The bill included the medication, the return visit to remove the staples, and the 'coat' to put on him to prevent licking and scratching the wound (cones will not work on an Irish Wolfhound!). We were provided with detailed instructions on his home care. He is doing wonderfully (it is 4 days since his surgery), and is becoming his old self.
I have had dogs my entire adult life, and have required emergency services from an Animal Hospital. To date, Vetmed is the best emergency animal hospital I have ever been to; based on the staff, the equipment and the care. I am very happy that all is well with my boy, and thank Vetmed for that! Dr. Grant is fabulous; thorough, knowledgeable, compassionate and very caring.
