| - We had a great time, Amber in the office totally helped us out, but the actual tour guide was DREADFUL.
I was with two locals who knew more about the different sights than the guide, okay, fair enough; but what was sad, was that *I*, after a week in town, knew more about the different locales than he did. He would recite the cost of different attractions and hotel stays, but no interesting history or factoids. I was reminded of the saying, "knows the cost of everything, and the value of nothing". He often got the original landmark wrong for places that had new hotels that were on the site of classic dives long gone except for in midnight showings of Dean Martin movies.
We resorted to texting between my compatriots, so we sort of led our own tour. With frequent bursts of giggling from our hilarious(possibly only to each other) written private commentary.
No one else on the bus seemed to be having any fun.
The guide commented on it, but didn't up his game. The poor fellow has sinus issues and maybe asthma along with a belly that was honestly so prominent I couldn't see anything off the bus to my right. When he wasn't talking into the mic, he was mumbling to himself. It was slightly disturbing.
We got off the bus on Fremont, power walked to Container Park, then when the ice cream place, Chill Spot was closed, headed over to the Cortez for milkshakes. Which was another misadventure...but also worth it in its own way.
We decided to take a taxi back to our car, to avoid being on the bus. The taxi took us the longest route possible and I did what I have never done before, I did not tip him and explained that we knew he had long routed us. It was still better than being on the bus.
We had a great night, the customer service from the office was great, but the whole reason to get on a double decker bus to see the sights and hear funny stories was lost. It's especially disappointing to read reviews by people who had fun, interactive guides and know what we missed.
