| - Japanese desserts are never too sweet, and everything at Sasaki is authentic Japanese, just like everything in J-Town!
I originally came for the Dorayaki - Japanese pancakes with red bean filling, but I keep returning for the Daifuku - tender mochi (glutinous rice dough) wrapped around different fillings, and the choices are amazing: Matcha, Chestnut, Strawberry. Mango, Coffee, Black Sesame, Hojicha, etc - the flavours rotate. Never heavy as they look, the cream inside is light and fluffy and the fillings are never too sweet.
I have eaten a fair bit of mochi in my life, and the mochi that contains the hidden treasure of these Daifuku is the most silky smooth and tender, sometimes mochi can be chewy like bad gum, but not here.
It is easy to miss Sasaki, if it is your first time to J-Town, but if you start at the doors at the east end, near Heisei and Bakery Nakamura, keep walking west until you come to a glass door and go in and you will find Tora Sushi at the front, and behind it, Sasaki tucked in the corner... or you can do what I do, and walk all the way to the west doors with the Tora Sushi and Sasaki sign, and start at Tora Sushi and Sasaki, and work your way east to the other stores.
If you love the desserts at Bakery Nakamura because they are not too sweet, definitely give Sasaki a try.
