Prologue:
One of our dining traditions when visiting Las Vegas is to try at least one new Asian restaurant.
After perusing several reviews on Yelp we decided that this trip would include some dim sum at Yum Cha.
The Plot:
My girlfriend and I shared a variety of traditional dim sum, including chicken feet, sticky rice with pork in lotus leaf, rice noodle with shrimp, beef short ribs, and beef tendon.
The Scene:
My girlfriend, who is a native of mainland China, and I agreed that the chicken feet and sticky rice with pork were as good as we've had anywhere.
The beef tendon, which was perfectly cooked to the optimal degree of tender, rich, gelatinous yummyness was quite satisfying.
The Rest of the Story:
The service was intermittent and challenging at times.
The rice noodle with shrimp was cold and the sauce was a little weak.
The beef short ribs were tasty but not nearly tender enough.
Epilogue:
The relatively limited dim sum menu was a somewhat unpleasant surprise considering how many good reviews this restaurant has received.
That fact alone dropped our review from 5 stars to 4.
Combine the limited menu with the sketchy service and cold rice noodles and the best review we can legitimately give is 3 stars.
