  • Growing up, my dad had a side job at a meat shop in Chinatown and I was spoiled with the slight burnt, sticky sweet ends of char siu whenever I stopped by as my mom did her grocery shopping. My favorite was when my dad would bring home roast duck though. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water..so succulent and meaty, dipped in a sweet soy sauce that I would drizzle over my rice. I've had authentic Peking duck from Beijing as well, and although delicious, it doesn't trump Cantonese roast duck for me. We got a half order ($13.99) of roast duck, and I felt like there were more pieces with just skin and fat than there were meaty pieces. It was sitting in a pool of its oily juices, which they could have done a better job draining. The plum sauce (I think?) was thick and I preferred the sweet soy sauce variety. Overall, it satisfied my craving for roast duck, but it doesn't even come close to my dad's. We also got a side order of choy sum and gai lan with oyster sauce ($4.25 each), not knowing that our beef chow fun with gravy ($11.99) would come with a lot of bok choy. Gai lan stalks were still crunchy. Main reason for the 2 stars is the service. My friend's boyfriend politely asked one of the guys what the difference (implying portion-wise) was between $7.99 roast duck and the half order of it. "One is more expensive, $13.99, one is cheaper $7.99, so more expensive one has more. So simple!" The way he said "so simple" screamed "are you stupid?" and I immediately felt bad as I was the one who dragged them here..especially when the same guy explained something nicely to another Chinese lady right after. I know FOB Chinese people are usually very blunt, but he could've handled it soooo much better. Plus you have to flag them down for everything, and no one refilled our teapot even though we left it open on the edge of our table. Prices (CASH ONLY) and food are just average. The rude service on top of that? No thanks.
