When you need a late night weeknight dinner, you can count on Perkins to be open. The BF and I went to a later moving screening without having had dinner so we were both hungry after 10. He has a lifelong love of Perkins, so off we went.
There were a surprising amount of people filling the dining room for a late weeknight, but that worked in our favor as they were appropriately staffed and service was fairly quick. While they have late night specials like half-priced slices of pie and AYCE pancakes, I went with the sandwich I had always ordered in high school: the chicken tenders melt.
I don't even want to think about how bad it is for you, but in the moment it hit the spot/scratched that nostalgic itch. At least until I got to a tender that was half connective tissue, anyway. This is par for the course at many chains; no one takes the time to clean the chicken properly, be it in house or at the factory where it's mass-produced. I don't know which is the culprit at Perkins, but I learned years ago to proceed with caution.
I'm probably never going to suggest Perkins as our destination, but since my gent enjoys it I'm sure we'll be back here and there.
