  • This was not the first time we had visited Basil. This was our 35th Anniversary and we selected Basil because of our past favorable experiences. We love the ambiance and the restaurant inside is very nice. This time we experienced no valet (raining), hostess on the phone almost our entire visit, poor bar service, inefficient wait staff, overpriced food, less than desirable sanitation grade (although technically an A - low A) and the owner walking around (dressed like a beach bum) not talking with anyone. One Star for good food. We had issues from the beginning. No valet on Monday? Heard others ask about No Valet. Raining like crazy and driving around the city to find parking for dinner. The next day the website said no valet on Monday. They weren't busy, four tables and four waiters. My wife ordered a champagne cocktail and she told the waiter that if the bartender could not make that just to bring a glass of champagne. They delivered a glass of rose wine. When the waiter sat it down, my wife told him "this is not champagne." He said it was rose champagne. When she tasted it, it definitely was not champagne. So she ordered a mojito. Then the waiter came back because the bar tender wanted to know if she wanted Prosecco. She does not like Prosecco. We don't like the same soups so we ordered soup, and were told that it was only available in a multi-person serving size (who does that?). We told the waiter to bring two different kinds anyway. $22 for soup??? After finishing the soup - then the waiter told us that he would put the dinner order into the kitchen. A waiter learns to times things so that dinner is served after we finished our soup. Come on they can do this at any restaurant. This was not a new waiter... we had him the last time at this restaurant (a couple of years ago). Then the waiter brought the rice out which sat on the table while the kitchen prepared dinner. The rice was cold when the entrĂ©e arrived. Our dinner was good, but not fabulous. Large plates with lots of sauce and vegetables for a very expensive Thai dinner ($27 for the volcano shrimp - they were jumbo but only 4). The spicy level does not warrant an indication on the menu. They did provide chili sauce, Thai pickled peppers and Thai spice powder to the table. Then we got the waiter to put my wife's left overs in a box. I offered my credit card, to which he replied let me ring up the check.
