Recently reverse gear in my transmission quit working. I heard about Tri City Transmission on bumper to bumper radio so I gave them a call. I was told I could bring my vehicle down anytime so I did that same afternoon. I was told they would make my vehicle a priority as I use it for work. The next afternoon they called with results saying the whole transmission had to be rebuilt to the tune of $3500. This took me off guard and I asked if they thought this vehicle was worth this kind of investment. I was told that my ford 5.4l engine was good for at least 300k miles. After speaking to several other people the 5.4l engine is not know for that kind of mileage. We considered trading it in but 1st wanted a 2nd opinion. As I stood at the counter to pick up my vehicle I was then offered a $2800 rebuild,I declined and then was offered a $2400 rebuild. There was never a mention of why the transmission was bad, the salesman just collected my $78 for diagnostics and handed me my key. After some research I found another local transmission shop which also came highly recommended, had a good standing with the BBB plus Yelp. I dropped it off to that shop that same afternoon. The next day they called to inform me of the diagnostic. I was given a complete description of what actually failed in my transmission after they dropped the drain pan and inspected it. This was not done at Tri City. I was told options of $800 to fix the broken reverse band and to replace the clutch or to rebuild the transmission with a full warranty for only $1800. Just to clarify I am not the type to ever look for the cheapest price as I understand that quality isnt cheap. However I do feel HONESTY is free and I felt mislead from the moment they called me. I do understand that this may be an isolated incident as the owner Dave called me the following Monday just see how my experience went. We had a good convo he listened to my concerns and did apologize however it is a little to late. He blamed the situation on an inexperienced salesman as he was off the day I took my van to Tri City Transmission.
