  • I just wrote a scathing review of Ede & Ravenscroft in the UK, which reminded me about my all time favorite place to shop. Harry Rosen at FCP with one salesperson in particular, Stewart Downer. He guided my transition from frumpy hobo student to professional lawyer, and more importantly, someone who can spot nice clothes on my own. Now that I no longer live in Toronto, I make it a point to visit FCP when I'm in town for a visit, and I almost invariably purchase something, nowadays its more on the casual side (I have enough suits now). My purchasing history in their internal system suggests I could have bought a small car instead, but I wouldn't take one of my purchases I made with him back, which have ranged from suits and shirts (both off the rack and custom), jackets, pocket squares, socks, polos, ties, sweaters, dress and casual pants. The first time I met Stewart, I had a tie that I didn't even buy from Harrys, whose fibres were starting to fray. I wasn't even looking to buy anything. I asked him for his advise, and then he took a lighter to it - after a brief moment of panic, I noticed that the close proximity of the flame moved the fibres back into the tie. Amazing, and I've had faith in him ever since.
