I drove 1300 miles to Las Vegas from Lincoln, Nebraska to photograph the races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I stayed at this hotel because the room rate was reasonable and because of its proximity to the drag strip.
The positives: The hotel is clean and in good order. My room was nicely prepared and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the H/AC system worked well. The bathroom was clean and the towels were soft and new. TV selection was better than average. The casino proper was large and, even through most of the gaming area was pro-smoking, the tobacco smell was not over-powering. Restaurants were plentiful and offered the typical American variety (Italian, Mexican, Pizza, Steak, pub grub, etc.). Hotel security was noticeably present but unobtrusive. Parking was OK and the lot was close and well lit. The parking lot was patrolled by bicycle-riding security officers.
The negatives: Staff members at the check-in desk were sullen and distracted. The non-smoking gaming area was too small. The parking lot was littered with trash and empty fast food containers. The hotel charges a small fee for "free wifi" and coffee. Wait...how can wifi be free if you need to pay a service charge for it?
Overall: When I'm back in Las Vegas for the races I will probably stay at the Cannery again. Why? It's convenient, affordable, and clean.
