  • Overpriced. Vet and tech were condescending. Disorganized. Made a bad first impression. No desire to go back. I can't tell if they actually care that much about the animals or if they are just mean. ¯\_(?)_/¯ PSA to all of the previously negative reviews: You are not a shitty dog parent. ***Explanation Below*** I had seen some negative reviews online about it being expensive, and I thought, "How silly to give a place a bad review for being expensive. You should base your review on quality of service." I get it now...It felt as though I was being haggled by a car mechanic. About my pet: He was rescued in Florida at the end of May last year. He was given a heart worm test and all of his shots. When I adopted him, I also bought him a monthly heart worm medicine and took him back for a lepto booster. Exactly 6 months later at the end of November, I took him to a different vet in Cleveland for a check up. They recommended a teeth cleaning and said I could just get his lepto out of the way if I wanted. I got him the shot, and instead of the teeth cleaning, I started regularly brushing his teeth myself. I didn't get the chance to go back for the booster because I was too busy with finals before flying home for the month-long winter break. Eh, no big deal since it was due in May anyway. I'd just wait until then or else I'd lose track of when everything was due. Exactly 6 months after that in May, I stumble across this place for his yearly check up because it's closer to where I moved. She recommended $400 worth of preventative care stuff. Good god, I see what people meant about expensive. (After looking back at different vet receipts, I realize it's partly because this place charges at least double for everything. Not a dramatization.) I told the lady that I just needed the rabies shot. I didn't want to say it aloud because it'd be rude, but I told myself that I'd find somewhere else to do the other stuff (e.g., lepto and whatnot). They insisted that everything on that list was of critical importance. She asked me if I'd ever had a pet before, and I said no because well, family pets weren't technically my sole responsibility--even though we had a lot of them (i.e., birds, turtles, hamsters, fish, and dogs that lived a long life). That was a mistake on my part because the vet proceeded to give me a lecture about the importance of shots, bringing up the fact that I failed to go back for the lepto booster. They asked me about ten times to reconsider. I finally caved and asked for the lepto as well. As she is giving him the shot, she asks what flea prevention I use. I don't give him a pill for it because the dog showers with me too often to have any fleas, and the medicine I already use for heart worm prevents any potential egg development. I tell the vet and the tech that I don't use anything. "Why not?" "It's not an issue I need to worry about." And then they snicker/giggle at each other and remark that it's not an issue until it's an issue. Just an unprofessional response, as opposed to, "Oh, and why don't you think it's an issue?" The whole time I was there was condescending in that way. "Yes, I know the difference between prevention and treatment. Yes, I know that fleas and tics carry diseases. Yes... Yeah... Mhm..." I go to check out and ask to buy another supply of heart worm medication. The lady at the front tells me that they can't sell that to me until I take their $100 heart worm test. I had never had a vet deny me heart worm medication when the dog had been tested and was already on heart worm medication, so I asked why. She said that it's because they (vet, tech, and woman at the desk) didn't see a test in the adoption papers, even though I assured them several times that he had been tested. According to her, shelters lie about that kind of stuff all the time due to short staffing, and in reality, my dog had never been tested... Okay...I checked when I got home. Yes, it says in bold writing that he was checked upon adoption. An hour after I arrived, I finally leave with a receipt of $79.65, which wouldn't have been that bad if I had actually paid that little. They accidentally gave me the receipt and all of the personal information of another client...Congrats to Ms. Howell's poodle for turning 15 last month! :) Clearly, you've been keeping up with the preventative care. Lol.
