Hit and miss. Inconsistent in quality - delighting on one hand but failing in others. You just don't know which one you will get on any visit. So if you don't mind rolling the dice for $75 - it's worth it when you win. When they are on their game - you are in for a treat!! But move on if you don't like the odds. Something has changed - would give this place 6 out of 5 stars if I could when I visited 3 months ago - but not today.
We made reservations on this visit but it took 3 tries before we could find a spot where we were not being blinded by broken shutters that let in a piercing shaft of light - or sandwiched into a spot much too tight to be seated. Obviously the host was new or trying to fill the "ugly" seats....and it started us off on the wrong foot.
In my previous visit I tried the grouper - and simply amazed at the contrasting heat with sweetness followed by the tenderness of the flakey grouper. I raved about it for weeks. That was 3 months ago and when I flew my team in - we made a beeline for The Mission. This was not the same meal - ok - but not the level I enjoyed before. No heat, no sweetness - good grouper - but not excellent. My meal was a 2 and about the same quality to what I get at a beachside lunch joint.... certainly not worth the $245.00 we dropped for the 3 of us.
We were seated in seat #1 by the kitchen door - where we were created by wafts of propane gas as the door would swing open by staff passing in and out of the kitchen. The gas was so strong / pungent that at its strongest we seriously considered leaving for our safety - half expecting the old church to be blown to kingdom come.
