I recently went in for a simple knee surgery which never took place. Banner University Hospital was supposed to contact me beforehand with details including how much my out of pocket would be. They never did. I showed up at 05:00 the day of surgery and they quoted me $3500 out of pocket. I could not pay half of that, much less all of it, on the spot. They said they would call the doctor. After waiting nearly 3 hours they told me surgery was cancelled and would need to be rescheduled. Upon returning home I contacted the doctors office who informed me that the doctor was very upset at the hospital for not proceeding with the surgery and billing me and for not making more effort to contact me. Banner University Hospital lied and blamed it on the doctor when, in fact, they cancelled the surgery. I will reschedule but it will be at a non-Banner facility.
