  • I've been a birder for a few years, but fell off the wagon in 2017. After moving to Henderson in late 2017 I decided to welcome 2018 by breaking out the binoculars and checking this place out. First, it's a little strange to get to from the main road. You drive for a minute or two on a service-like road. You will be okay as long as you follow the numerous signs that guide you. Once parked, I entered a small guest/info/nature center. I was greeted by a kind woman and had to sign up to gain access into the preserve (it's quick and easy, so don't stress about this). Exiting out the backdoor will lead you back outside to the viewing area where there are numerous large pools with hundreds of birds. I recorded 33 species of birds on the day, and a few rabbits, but there could have easily been more. I recommend any nature enthusiast to explore this place, so be sure to bring a pair of binoculars and a field guide! I will be spending more mornings here for sure.
