| - My son age 12 has been a patient at Wee Care Pediatrics 3 years. The Dr. was great, however the clerical staff especially the office manager "Margaret" lacked empathy, care, nor a bit of concern for my son and his medical needs and were highly unprofessional.
Being diagnosed with ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, & Aspergers he takes 2 medications daily to stabilize his mood during the day, & to sleep at night. Given 3 months of the RX that is required to be written, I misplaced the RX when due to be refilled along with the night time medication. 3 years being affiliated with Wee Care, I'd had this happen previously and had no issue in asking the staff for a replacement and in a timely manner the Dr. was informed and a new RX written and a call for me to pick up the new RX.
What had never been a problem before turned into a catastrophic event leading to my son being released from the practice and denied a refill & left without medication for a month.
I was without notification required to pay a $5 fee for the reprinting of his RX. Having no $ on me at the time the office manager refused my request to simply bill me or to ask for payment at the time of his upcoming appointment.
My son standing by my side and knowing the urgency and importance of him having both RX's, I basically had to plead and beg for them to make an exception for a "sudden"change in policy that in 3 years I'd never been made aware of.
The office manager "Margaret" lacked professionalism altogether and absolutely refused in an aggressive manner to bill me or allow payment the following day. Of course I became very upset and agitated because I was astonished that any practice would refuse to release such a necessary and important medication for my son over a$5 cost to reprint the lost medication.
I had to have my sons father leave his job to give me his card to make the payment, which was unnecessary and caused a great inconvenience but was in the end charged $10 rather than the $5. I said but did not confirm that I'd be in pursuit of finding a new practice for my son to be reestablished. The office manager had no concern for my son and his condition and the importance and need for his medications.
I became vocal after the card was charged the $10 and the office manager slang the card back to me rather than hand it back. When I requested her name in order to file a complaint, she refused to give me her name, threatened me as to what she would do if I made a complaint.
My son being without his medication had a terrible month, inability to sleep, rise in blood pressure, extreme mood changes, violent episodes, and obviously this lead to him having major problems both at home and at school which was his last 4 weeks of elementary. Finally, we had an appointment with a new pediatrician and things are looking very positive and I'm optimistic.
No mother nor child should have to go through such a debacle, especially when dealing with a child's mental stability and special needs. I'd file a formal complaint but I'm exhausted and just happy that we've finally gotten him back on his medications and with a pediatric office that takes great pride in the quality of care their patients receive.
