  • Love having this place so close! The first time I ever went in was about 10 years ago or so... I was in there for 4 hours exploring every continent of the culinary world. If you have an elite western nose the first thing that'll hit you is the smell. I'm a white guy, but not sqeamish, I can see how some people might not enjoy the oily fish smell. It has nothing to do with the quality folks, it's that they have varieties of things our noses aren't used to. After a few minutes it'll level off... So if you make it past the entrance, head over to the produce department and see things you've never seen. Interesting fruits, vegetables, and prices on staples that you'll pay 2 or 3x more for at other local chains. If you're a value shopper lee lee is definitely worth a serious look. They don't have 'sales' they have consistently fair prices! I'd put their freshness and quality ahead of others on lots of items. If you're looking for something exotic they'll probably have it, maybe not a bargain price, but they'll have it most likely. As you exit the produce department, you'll see live seafood. I've seen many things in the tanks. catfish (most often), tilapia, Dungeness crab, lobster... The catfish were nice sized, but seemed a bit pricey if you realize you could go over to one of the urban lakes or the canal and pull out a meal for almost free. (Shh!) As you head north, you'll be in front of the 'fish market', too much to name here. Peruse the variety. If you want something you'll probably have to get someone's attention, otherwise they'll probably assume your just gawking! Don't be shy! As you continue north, you'll be in the meat cases and frozen section. For a long time... You need a sea cucumber? Got that! Parrot fish? Check! If they don't have it you probably didn't look hard enough. I especially love the fact I can get crawfish in bulk here for a decent price! If you know what you're doing, az mountain lakes and streams are filled with them. But if you need to pick up some for a boil on short notice hit up lee lee! I've always found their meats a decent quality for a decent price. One of my favorite purchases was always the pork tenderloin. Like I said earlier, they don't keep you guessing with sales and all those gimmicks. Good prices, good quality! As you keep traveling north past the meat cases you'll come to something very interesting. I'll leave it as a surprise, but let's just say you can buy things you would only find in the top end restaurants for $$$$ or $ at an undiscovered hole in the wall in a part of town you might never think to go to. Things you would never dream of cooking yourself, but as a $30 appetizer in a high end establishment you'd give it a go. Go ahead and gawk! I'm sure they're used to it. Once you've passed the 'offal' (no pun intended) you'll pass a frozen case with many different cuts you'll find nowhere else without bothering the butcher by ringing the bell and waiting 15 minutes elsewhere. Want thin sliced rib eye for a Philly cheese? Bingo! Great price! Need some mutton? Got that! If it isn't clear by now... If your local shop doesn't have it, lee lee probably does! So now we are heading into the alcohol section as we pass by dairy, juice, and thousand year old eggs. Let me tell you right now, if you like sake, you will be turning this corner heading west after a long trip north and this will probably be another 30 min or so. So many things I've never seen before! I'm not an expert here, but I get the feeling they probably have done this section right. Moving down the aisle, frozen prepared foods on the left, alcohol on the right. A selection of Asian and European beers of all kinds. Basically every countries version of their 'bud light'? As you move down toward the American end of the beer aisle, you'll be surprised! They have a decent selection of craft brews!! Right on lee lee!! Occasionally you'll find some good clearance deals on beer and wine. 1st rule of fight club, don't talk about fight club... Try a bottle or 6 pack before stocking up. Ok before this turns into a novel, I'll leave it with a tour of the periphery. I won't even go down any of the awesome aisles. What's your pleasure? They have such an amazing variety... You won't know till you go!
