I was pretty impressed with the Métro in Montréal. Starting with the 747 bus from the airport, everything's included when you buy one of the $8 all-you-can-eat cards. Take the train from one station in centre-ville (French for downtown) out to the Stade Olympique and back. It's just $8.
The trains were quite comfortable and while they weren't silent, they are very quiet compared to the New York Subway or the London Tube. I think this is because the trains have rubber wheels on a ceramic track, so there isn't the steel-on-steel squealing as the trains go around corners. Not much for air conditioning though. And a couple of stations had that lovely "urine" smell. Just don't touch anything and you'll be fine.
