  • I fall into the category of the "first time renter," and came to Rentals Tempe because I had seen so many of their homes for rent on websites such as Craigslist and Zillow for such great prices. My roommate and I went and looked at a couple of homes and found one that we were very interested in. The lady who showed us the homes told us that we'd need to go back to the office to talk with Tim to obtain more information, so we did. We walked into the office and were greeted by a man wearing sweatpants sitting in the lobby, he introduced himself as "Tim". I wasn't sure if that was the Tim we were supposed to be speaking to, considering that the other guy behind the counter who clearly worked there was apparently also named Tim, and because this Tim didn't even introduce himself as the owner of the company or anything, he just looked like any other random person who might be sitting in the lobby. Regardless, my roommate and I sat down and talked with Tim (the one in the sweatpants) about the house and what we'd need to do in order to secure it. He was quick to run our credit and take our $60. Everything came out fine. He threw out number after number and at the end of it all, he made it seem like we were somehow getting a bargain, but his pushy demeanor made us extremely uncomfortable and questionable. There were a couple of exchanges that occurred, as well, that seemed sketchy. One was when Tim (the one behind the counter) had asked a girl who came in if she'd considered writing a nice review on Yelp, and she abruptly declined. Both my roommate and I found this odd--you'd think that if this was such a good rental company, their tenants would be more than ecstatic to let everyone on the Internet know! We left to go home and think about the offer that Tim had laid on the table, but also to do some research (which, to be quite honest, is something we should have done before we even stepped foot into the office). We visited Yelp to see what others were saying, because we'd heard nothing good come from word of mouth. We continued to look at other websites and found nothing good about the people who own this company. ABC 15 did an investigation into the company not too long ago, and they interviewed a Tenants Rights Advocate who said that Tim Wright is known for all the wrong reasons. Some of those reasons including, "repair issues, illegal access, failing to return security deposits, and making claims for bogus damages." According to them, he's been involved in at least 250 lawsuits, in which most had been filed by him. (See website: http://bit.ly/19YZdqF). Another thing? The Better Business Bureau gave Rentals Tempe an F. (See website: http://bit.ly/19Un4Em). Needless, we decided that we were not going to rent from them. I'm extremely thankful that we decided against renting with Rentals Tempe. Although the rental home we saw seemed like our "dream house," I was too afraid that had we signed a lease with this company, it'd quickly escalate into a nightmare. I regret giving this company the money it took to run our credit, but am also thankful that that's the only money they were able to get out of us. Although I have not rented with Rentals Tempe, I would not advise signing a lease with them. And if, for whatever reason, you're seriously considering it--do your research, weigh your other options, and decided for yourself.
