| - I have worked for an oil and gas company on the west side of downtown for the better part of 5 years. Periodically, I have crossed the +15s and frequented the Jugo Juice on the main floor of the Western Canadian Place tower, when I I get a hankering for my favorite Jugo Juice wrap - the Louisiana Heat. I usually get the combo, with a Mango Magic smoothie.
I have had Jugo Juice in a number of locations, and would rate the fast food equally in any location. However, what makes this location stand out for me is the friendly, east indian owner/manager that is always working there. He's an older gentleman, and is one of those people that is so friendly and genuine, you can`t help but feel like an appreciated customer dealing with him.
Today, when he saw me, his face lit up in recognition, even though it has likely been a good two months since I have been there last.
Before I tell you about my experience today, I want to add a disclaimer, that this guy is not pushy at all. Usually, he doesn`t make any suggestions, however, my state of arrival was a little unusual. First, I have been fighting one hellova nasty cold. And second, I am painfully aware that I have a short two and a half months until Stampede, where I will have to get my winter hams into a pair of summer jeans. Therefore, I didn`t have my usual confidence in my order when I approached the counter.
He asked me what I was looking for, and in my sad state (glasses instead of contact lenses, a curly, puffy ponytail instead of flat ironed long straight hair) bleated out, "something light in calories with lots of vitamin C, please".
Well, he started to give me the friendly sales pitch. He came across genuinely happy that he could offer suggestions and assistance.
He said, "I know you usually order Louisinana Heat, but do you want to try the special this month - our Turkey Cranberry Chutney Wrap? Its under 300 calories". My first reaction was pleasant shock that he knew my order. I have been going there for years, sure, but really its usually every month or two at best.
Then, he went on to suggest the Summer Strawberry Smoothie, which has 350% of your daily vitamim C requirements and is under 300 calories. Sounds like a winner to me in my delicate condition.
Then he suggested a banana for "extra protection". I"m not going to touch that one with a 10 foot pole. However, I did say yes to the banana.
For those that haven't tried to the Turkey Cranberry Chutney Wrap, it was pretty darn good. I still prefer the Louisiana Heat (just because I love hot food), but this wrap had quite a bit of flavor for a fast food wrap. It had spinach, cheddar, cranberry chutney and deli turkey.
The Summer Strawberry smoothie (with the extra banana) was pretty good too. I usually lean towards their citris smoothies (Mango Magic is my favorite), but I have to admit, I would get the Summer Strawberry one again. It had strawberries, peaches and apple juice. And of course, the added banana for extra protection.
The quality of food here is consistent with other Jugo Juice, but if this is in your area of downtown... stop by. This franchise deserves the business. Talking to the staff there always makes me smile.
