  • Having heard all the rave about this place and the very unique description of the restaurant on their website, I had to try it when visiting downtown Phoenix with a friend. We were lucky to walk in with two area left for a party of two because the place was fully reserved. I highly recommend making reservation if you are visiting during the weekend. The atmosphere is very pleasant and peaceful. The decor is very unique, especially a little cabinet with all kinds of teapots and cups located next to the bar area. They also have a lounge area for a party of 2-4 looking for a more laid back gathering. Their portion is definitely too small for the price they charge. It costs $6 for a small plate of shishito peppers. The peppers were very well grilled and drizzled with extremely tasty sauce but there were only about a dozen or so peppers. For equally tasty shishito peppers, you can get way more peppers for $7 at Roka Akor or RA Sushi. The tuna tataki is served with sweet onion sauce that is extremely strong. Definitely not recommended if you do not like onion. Instead, I highly recommend their pork belly buns. It is very flavorful with sour taste from the pickled mustard green, juiciness from the pork belly, sweetness from the hoisin-like sauce, crunchiness from the cucumber, all of it wrapped in a fluffy bun. It reminds me a lot of Peking duck dish. While I enjoyed most of the dishes and the atmosphere, I felt that their dishes are overpriced. I am unlikely to return unless I am around the area with a friend who loves Japanese food and feel like spending a lot.
