| - Toronto is known for its art scene, but unfortunately AGO leaves much to be desired.
The museum building itself is very nice. Located on Dundas street just a short walk from the Yonge-Dundas square, the museum is well-located, spacious, and architecturally beautiful. There are multiple floors and galleries, a cute cafe overlooking the street, and a gift shop. The museum is also quite easy to navigate.
Unfortunately, I found their collection quite limited. They have just a few rooms of classic European art. There are larger exhibitions on contemporary Canadian art and modern abstract art, but those exhibits only feature a few artists, so many of the paintings are all very similar. I arrived 1.5 hours before closing and was worried whether I'd have enough time, but after 30 minutes, I had seen pretty much everything.
Overall, if the museum had been free, it would've been a fun visit. But for $19.50, it didn't feel like a good value - I've been to much better art museums for less. Check it out if you can get in for cheap (they have free nights on Wednesdays), but otherwise I'd recommend you save your money.
