| - I used to gently tease my female friends about their vast collections of shoes, until one of them saw the floor of my closet.
That sucker is littered with my kicks of choice, new balance 574s.
Available in a variety of materials (I prefer suede, the more garishly coloured the better), these are the closest shoes I've found to walking barefoot, without humiliating myself by wearing those newfangled vibram thingamabobs with actual toes. Seriously. Who came up with the idea of actual foot-gloves? And why are you people encouraging him?
But I digress.
My favoured footwear is now conspicuoulsy available; perhaps a cresting trend, but for many years I could only find them in New Balance shops and on the occasional trip to Buffalo. Since sightings were rare, I stocked up, always with a spare pair or two...or ten in case my current sneaks gave up the ghost.
I liked them better at $30, than $50 or $75 or now over $100 for all-leather British versions (still a bit pricey for me), but they're still the most comfortable thing going, and sold by a collective of fresh-faced, polite, well-trained footwear experts.
I'll hardly keep this store afloat, but I'm glad that I can indulge my addiction...every now and again.
