  • I have mixed reviews. I took my van in today, 1/9/16. I had called a few places to see if there were available appointments, and Dave's was the only one who had an opening right away. I definitely appreciated their availability to service my van immediately. They were friendly on the phone, and they were friendly when I arrived to drop off the van. I had a brake/blinker light out, and it still wasn't working despite me putting a new bulb in myself. So I knew it was some sort of wiring issue. When I got there, they informed me they'd have to run a diagnostic to find the problem. $109. I politely asked if we could try to replace the socket the bulb screws into first because I'd read that was most likely the culprit. The response I got was very abrupt and curt and quite rude. He explained what the diagnostic was for and said they had to do it. I am no mechanic, so I agreed to let them do it. I got a call a few hours later letting me know there was a wiring issue, and the cost to repair was extremely reasonable- only $36 (on top of the $109 for the diagnostic). I agreed. Then they went on to let me know there were other things wrong with my van. One of the things he said was wrong was that it was "desperate for an oil change." I just had an oil change done in December of 2015! They did the agreed upon repair, and my van was ready for pickup within an hour or so. Very quick service, which is awesome. However, upon speaking later to family members and friends who are mechanics in other states, they all said that we should not have needed a diagnostic for that repair and that we were totally ripped off. We paid $169 after tax for a repair that should have cost half that at most. 3 different mechanics within our close circle of family and friends all said the same thing. So that makes me wonder why they also said I needed an oil change when clearly I did not (the oil change sticker is on my windshield showing it was serviced only a month ago), and if they were honest with everything else they said. Despite the mostly decent experience I had, I do not think I will go back just because I felt like they were unnecessarily rude when I was simply asking for clarification, and now I feel like I was hosed because I don't know enough about cars.
