| - So, Marc and I have be dying for paella, but haven't been able to find a great one in LA. We heard good things about Julian Serrano and their paella, so decided to give them a try.
First off--our server was VERY blase. We mentioned we were excited to get some good paella on the west coast and mentioned the great paella we have had on the East Coast--and he basically told us to go back to NYC. It was rude and just plain strange. That sort of attitude continued most of the meal. Anyhow, we ordered the paella, which were told would take a bit and some tapas.
The calamari a la plancha was wonderful, as was the foie. Not the best, but definitely tasty and the plates were beautiful.
When our paella finally come out, it was undercooked, underseasoned, and extremely underwhelming. We ate as much as we could...but honestly, we did not finish it. The portion size, for what you pay is also TINY. The rice barely covered the bottom of the pan, when it came out from the kitchen.
The restaurant itself is beautiful--but it was also completely dead, on a Saturday, which was strange.
We definitely will NOT be back. Go to Jaleo, instead.
