A Requiem for Tasty Chinese.
After moving up North for a year, I returned to the area earlier this summer.
Tasty was here for us every step of the way as we slowly moved in to our new home. We lived off their hot and sour soup (much better and less sugary than I remembered), pan-fried meat dumplings, and moo shu chicken.
As my wife's unexplainable late night cravings for gallons of hot and sour became more readily explained (;-) ), we'd order in more often; and occasionally visit for their excellent lunch special. Spicy szechuan, pearlescent fried rice, a well-filled egg roll and more of that splendid soup; all serrved hot and fast.
We took my parents to Tasty. They were impressed. I discovered their Wor Won Ton soup; the closest thing I've found to the late, lamented China House further down Eglinton. I was impressed.
And then it was gone.
A few weeks ago, my wife again needed a H&S&M&S fix. So we bundled up and trundled over.
The storefront was dark. The menus and opening hours sign were gone. Tables still set, soy sauce still waiting to be shared. A forlorn room.
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
