We got unlucky and a pebble cracked the windshield of our new car shortly after we bought it. Since it was a brand new model, it turned out that replacement windshields were not yet readily available for it.
Others told us that we had no choice but to have a replacement shipped by boat from the Korean manufacturer for a small fortune. Ash, the exceptionally friendly owner of Secured Auto Glass, spent hours trying to find us a better option, and eventually got us a quote that saved us a ton of money.
The problem is that, due to a screwup not Ash's fault, he wound up having to pay more for the windshield that the entire price he quoted us, including his fee for installation. 99.99% of business owners would have informed us of the "bad news" that he would have to charge us a lot more than he had originally quoted.
Ash simply explained what happened and how he had "done right by us" in taking a considerable loss on our job. All he asked is that we would "pay it forward" by being equally nice to someone else if we ever find ourselves in a similar situation as business owners.
Wow, how often to run into this kind of attitude by a small business owner? You'd have to be out of your mind to go anywhere else if you have an auto glass problem...
