  • What a disappointment. When I booked our room at the Aria, I let the saleslady talk me into upgrading the room with a free breakfast buffet for the length of our stay. After all, it's the Aria -- a brand new hotel with top-notch ratings for service and quality. Plus, The Buffet at Aria is #5 on the Top 10 Vegas Buffet ratings at LasVegasDirect.com. So I came here with high hopes. It started bad right away. They have 2 cashier's stations for this place, and one of them is often clogged with "VIPs" with line-passes, so the line gets long and goes slow. Once you pay, you're held up until they get several tables to seat, and the maitre'd dispatches you with a hostess to drop you at your various tables like a UPS driver on a tight schedule. The buffet itself is constructed with a wall limiting access to it to a handful of entry/exit points, and also serves to constrict traffic so that you are constantly in the way of or impeded by someone else. The overall sensation is of a herd of cattle being shunted down a chute to the feeding pens or holding floor. The bakery section is partitioned by glass that goes all the way to the ceiling, so when you try to talk to the buffet worker about what sort of bread or bagel you'd like toasted, it's like talking to a prisoner in "Midnight Express." You can barely hear each other though the glass, and leads to fun miscommunications (e.g.: "May I have an onion bagel please?" "You want an Everything bagel?" "Uh, no, ONION please!" "Ok, white toast, coming up!" "Okay, fine, give it to me.") For those lucky enough to get seated near the windows, as another Yelper wrote, you will get sunlight and verdant views of the pool. The rest of you will get exiled to the low-roofed oppressive dungeon, with test-tube lights dangling from the ceiling like Superman's Fortress of Solitude. The food was uninspired but serviceable. The waitress, when she showed up, was friendly and efficient. The overall vibe, however, was one of "we're really busy, so hurry up and get out of our buffet." We were more than happy to comply. Skipping the "free" breakfast today -- here's hoping Wicked Spoon next door is better.
