  • This place is the real deal. It's a donut shop that has been around for some 80 years with history and cachet but without the prices and attitude of those trendy donut shops closer to the hip parts of most cities. Jack Frost Donuts is quite a ways from downtown, where Pearl and Fulton meet to form a triangle near the Outerbelt Freeway (I-480) in a fairly nondescript middle class neighborhood. The physical plant obviously doesn't date back to when Jack Frost Donuts was founded in the 1930s. Their store is newer than that and it's modern, bright, and has sufficient parking. Note that there is no seating inside. You can always sit in your car and slam dunk their baked goods down the hatch. Or, like most normal people, you can take their baked goods elsewhere and ingest them in a more civilized manner. The thing about Jack Frost Donuts is the novelty of the offerings combined with reasonable prices. The service is efficient and they don't seem to tire of people asking what's in a particular donut. I'd say some of the donuts approach gourmet donut status, yet they are not priced as gourmet donuts. Again, this place is not that close to downtown. It's on the belt road that skirts it at a distance. You can come here while shopping big box retail nearby, on your way to or from the Metroparks Zoo, on your way to or from a seedy adult bookstore or strip joint on Brookpark Road, on your way to the office, and/or on your way to the airport, for which the exits are about 4 ramps going west along I-480. It is also important to note that there is more selection at the beginning of the donut day. Also, where Pearl and Fulton come together, or near there, there is a no right turn on red at one of the lights. Heed that ... and enjoy these well crafted donuts that are available to you without an ounce of pretense in either the service or the pricing.
