  • We have had a home warranty with OneGaurd for 2 years. It has been of some value to us. Some of their contractors have not been good, particularly plumbers. The problem I had today had to do with one of our AC air handler units that went bad. The tech from America's Pride Hearing and Cooling (Darrell) was great - knowledgeable and friendly. I am very disappointed in OneGaurd which determined that I bear the cost of a "retrofit" to install the new unit which was slightly smaller in size than the unit that went bad. The "retrofit" cost that I had to pay today was $1,095, but the air handler was "covered" under the policy. The retrofit was a joke. To "retrofit" they used a small amount of sheet metal on the top of the unit, nothing needed on the bottom of the unit to make it fit and they replaced about 12 inches of PVC piping for the drain. The unit fit right on the old base - no modification on the bottom was required. This was essentially just an installation. "Retrofit is just a way to make the customer pay for a large part of the repair. That $1,095 may be fair in other cases but not this one. Totally unfair in this case. When I scheduled this the rep at OneGaurd he had no idea what was required - just a retrofit cost to me of $1,095. I saw what was necessary and it was a joke. I feel ripped off.
