  • While on a short trip to Toronto we stopped at Starving Artist for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and there was no line up. I heard this place gets pretty busy. We were told it would take about 20 minutes to get a table. The patrons finished up sooner than expected and we were seated within 5. This place is really tight and uncomfortable so be prepared to 'dance' with people while they leave and you enter. While I waited, I did take a look around the kitchen and the espresso machine and could see what people were writing about. This place REALLY needs a good wipe down. The lion statue at the front, don't get too close, it's covered in hair which is strange since its concrete. Maybe its art? Cleanliness aside, I was able to get past this once I saw the menu and the pics on Yelp. One word, waffles. Waffles everywhere. Whether you're after a savory breakfast or a sweet one, Starving Artist will give you what you crave. I had the Hitchhicker's Breakfast and everyone else at my table had the B. Benny. The B. Benny is made with potato waffles and wow were they tasty! I LOVED the caramelized bacon. A perfect hint of sweetness and cooked perfectly. I like that the breakfast came with a bit of fruit and also some greens. The 2 mini waffles were a great treat without making me feel too bad about it. From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, there was a line of at least 8 people waiting, outside, in the cold. When people are waiting outside and its negative degrees outside? Yep, it must be good. I'm sad I don't get to visit Toronto as much as I used to because I could definitely see myself becoming a frequent customer at Starving Artist.
