  • Never again. Flew Spirit Airlines Tampa to Chicago last week. Absolutely the worst flight experience ever. The only good part was a funny little intro by a flight attendant before takeoff. I had a window seat, and I swear this airline must have put smaller seats in the aircraft to cram as many passengers in as possible. The poor guy stuck in the middle seat is 6'7, and his involuntary manspread - he virtually had nowhere for his body to go - pressed me up against the wall/window throughout the entire flight. I am handicapped and needed assistance on and off the plane. After the other passengers got off the plane in Chicago, I was left sitting, waiting for assistance. Finally I told a flight attendant that I had to get off the plane, and rather than figuring out that I needed assistance she said "fine, you're welcome to leave any time," in a red faced, snotty way. No wonder people hate stewardesses. Also, the tray tables are smaller than a small laptop, and if you bring a laptop to work on during a Spirit Airline flight, like I did, forget about it - my Mac airbook couldn't fit on this ridiculously tiny tray table, and even after I jerry rigged it on this ridiculous excuse for a tray table, the laptop couldn't open enough to see the screen, I am tiny - 5'1" - and I felt like a prisoner in a coffin. I can't imagine how average sized people coped, and if you're tall or large, don't do it to yourself. Find a real airline. I also had to pay $100 to check one bag and carry on one bag, and that was the discount price for paying in advance. Never, ever again. My flight back to Tampa was on United, cost less than Spirit, the seats and tray tables were normal size, and I only had to pay $25 to check one bag. They didn't finagle anything out of me for my carry-on. I've flown hundreds of times and I can honestly say, this was the worst flight experience I have ever been subjected to. Do yourselves a favor and never fly Spirit Airlines.
