| - It definitely was not zero degrees, or even a reasonably comfortable temperature, inside Zero Degrees when we went. The place was packed full of people due to it being the Grand Opening, but there's a problem when it is cooler outside in the shade on an Arizona afternoon in May than in the shop.
The line was long and we almost left because it wasn't moving very fast but decided we could tough it out for the BOGO deal. While waiting we were asked to check-in on the Yelp app. (Probably to help speed things up, but also to get the free publicity...hmmm...?) When I paid we didn't receive the BOGO offer. What gives? We ordered off the flyer of select drinks that were part of the deal. Turns out split cups and travel bottles do not count. Would have been swell to have an employee point that out. We would have just ordered both drinks full size instead of getting the split cups especially since that was the main reason anyone would waiting in line for so long.
As for the drinks, I was surprised that I really enjoyed the Strawberry Horchata much more than the Matcha Milk Tea, which is my usual go-to drink. I know matcha can lean a bit towards the bitter side but I did not enjoy the bitterness of this one. The ice used in the drinks was pretty good which is something that can be taken for granted but really can effect your overall enjoyment of a beverage. Also, the use of fresh fruit slices and fresh mint in the drinks is a big plus for me!
This could have been a higher star review but there simply were too many fixable issues (the heat inside the shop, long wait time, the BOGO confusion between employees and customers, bitter matcha) that should have been handled better and sooner. Yeah, it is Grand Opening and it will be busy. However, isn't that the point of having a soft opening so your Grand Opening actually goes well and making customers want to come back?
Would I return in the future? Maybe. Am I disappointed from this first experience? You betchya! Doubt I'll be back soon.
